The meeting, held at the State House in Banjul, centered on collaborative efforts to improve healthcare delivery for Gambian citizens and foster stronger partnerships with African diaspora communities.
During the discussions, President Barrow expressed his commitment to a unified vision of enhancing healthcare services across the country. He acknowledged the vital role of partnerships with organizations like The Uzima Foundation in driving sustainable progress in the health sector.

Uzima Foundation Announces Key Appointments to Lead Health Initiatives in West Africa
Washington DC – The Uzima Foundation has announced the appointment of two distinguished medical professionals to spearhead critical health programs aimed at addressing pressing healthcare challenges in West Africa.
Dr. Theodora Fynn has been named Executive Director of the EmpowerHer Health Initiative, a comprehensive program designed to combat cervical cancer and address other critical women’s health issues in the region. Dr. Olu Sangodey has also been appointed as Executive Director of the Strengthening Hypertension Control and Prevention Initiative, a targeted program to tackle the growing burden of hypertension across West Africa.
In a statement, Uzima Foundation Board Secretary Dr. Jabu Dube expressed confidence in the appointments, emphasizing the extensive expertise both leaders bring to their respective roles.
“Dr. Fynn and Dr. Sangodey together represent more than half a century of specialist medical experience at the highest level,” Dr. Dube said. “Their leadership will be instrumental in developing and launching these transformative programs, which will initially be rolled out in The Gambia.”
The EmpowerHer Health Initiative aims to address the alarming rates of cervical cancer and other women’s health issues through preventive care, early detection, and community-based education.
